Swimmer Spotlight: Exemplifying Team Values

At Foxjets Swim Team, we take pride in recognizing athletes who go above and beyond, exemplifying team values both in and out of the pool. Our core principles of Integrity, Family, Attitude, and Ambition are the foundation of our community, and this month, we’re excited to spotlight two swimmers who truly embody these qualities. Join us as we celebrate their achievements and hear their inspiring stories!

“I'm happy to nominate Cataleya Silva! She consistently gives her best effort, has made tremendous progress in her training, listens and thoughtfully incorporates feedback. Her positive attitude toward herself and her teammates sets a great example for everyone.” Coach Travis

What’s your favorite thing about being on the swim team?

My favorite thing about being on the swim team is that the sport is very supportive, my friends and the coaches make it really fun and special.

What stroke do you enjoy the most, and why?

I enjoy swimming freestyle because it’s very repetitive and fast. I can rely on muscle memory and relax.

What’s one of your favorite memories from a swim meet or practice?

One of my favorite memories at a swim meet was during my 500 freestyle, on every other turn I saw my friends cheering for me. It kept me going even though I was really tired. It made it really special.

How do you feel after achieving a personal best time?

I feel proud of myself and I feel like I’m getting stronger every time I reach my new goal.

What’s something you’ve learned from your coaches that’s helped you improve?

At my last meet I swam the 50Y Breast stroke and my coach gave me some advice. He noticed that every time I did a stroke I moved up, not forward. So, he told me to be an escalator, not an elevator. To move up gradually, even if it’s fast.

Do you have any fun pre-race rituals or routines?

I tell myself, “Even if it’s hard it’ll still be fun". My mantra is, “I got this”.

What advice would you give to a new swimmer joining the team?

No matter what, your team has your back and remember you're racing against your own time. Set a goal for yourself and keep trying to achieve it.

“I was happy to nominate Owen Lund!  He’s having a great year, both in and out of the pool. I’m so proud of him.” Coach Lloyd

What stroke do you enjoy the most, and why?

My favorite stroke is the butterfly because when you come off the blocks in a race, the first few strokes feel like you are actually flying.

How has being part of the swim team helped you grow as an athlete?

Being on the team has helped me understand that swimming is not all about winning, it's about having good sportsmanship

How do you feel after achieving a personal best time?

I feel excited and know all the hard practices paid off.

What’s something you’ve learned from your coaches that’s helped you improve?

There are too many things to list.

What advice would you give to a new swimmer joining the team?

Try to make all the practices, because they really add up over time and don't focus on other people's progress.
